Forward Is For EveryoneAug 23, 2025I’ve been focused on my family, which is the fundamental reason we’ve started Forward. But I would like to widen the aperture while staying rooted in the family as a concept. The modern family brings such interesting and nuanced dynamics that must be respected. Further, building software to serve an evolving landscape is a fun challenge (ie, where’s the fun in delivering what is already known?). Some of the edge cases we are exploring include:Blended familiesDivorcesLong-term partnersEstranged family membersRegent Head of FamiliesOur inheritance planning needs to keep pace with the realities of the interconnected, waxing, and waning nature of relationships. Our in-the-moment understanding and actions need to keep pace. Our legal agreements need to keep pace. Our professional helpers (lawyers, accountants, wealth managers, insurance brokers, etc) need to keep pace.Getting the relationship dynamics right provides a foundation which allows and enables transparency and accountability while building trust so that, when an inheritance is being settled, there is more of a focus on grieving than on negotiating.
